I'm A Trans Woman And I'm Not Interested In Being One of the "Good Ones"

femmesandfamily:

“Here’s the thing: People fucking despise trans women. Often the nicest thing they can thing of to say to trans woman is “gosh, you are so little like a trans woman!” Being trans is something to avoid, to exclude, to escape, at worst to nobly bare up under.”

wow.

Watch Men Experiencing Simulated Childbirth Labor Pains As Their Wives Watch [VIDEO]

Any cis guy who says that people with uteruses complain too much about this sort of thing needs to have this procedure done. Better yet, let’s also add the dudes who are anti-abortion.

Now take these pains and add in the following possible scenarios:

-The feeling of the baby actually coming out
-The intense pain/surgery required for a c-section
-The emotional pain of a miscarriage
-The emotional pain of having to give up one’s child
-The emotional pain of having to go through pregnancy if it is unwanted
-The recovery process
-All the months prior to labor.

So yeah, in short—birth is a big fucking deal.

Also this video makes me lawl.

Ponderance of the Day 5/13/13

Been listening to a lot of atheist audiobooks recently, because working third shift is mind-numbing. Just finished God is Not Great, by Christopher Hitchens, and am now listening to The God Virus, by Darrel W. Ray. And in doing so have realized a couple things:

1. Religion has evolved over time like any other meme. The reason why the most popular religions today are so popular, is not because of some inherent truth they bring, but because they have survived through countless generations, changing gradually over time, and are the fittest results we have at the moment in terms of effectiveness of addictive and infectious belief.

2. Atheists who are misogynistic and/or who slut-shame or are sex-negative, are the worst kind of irony, insofar as they haven’t realized that such attitudes have been promoted in their mind as a result of highly influential anti-woman and anti-sex religious beliefs in our cultures (in most cases). Religious belief STILL has an impact on their mindset and they aren’t even aware of it. Kind of sad, really.

Clitoraid launches 'International Clitoris Awareness Week'

“Clitoraid is proud to announce its first annual International Clitoris Awareness Week, May 6 to May 12,” said Nadine Gary, Clitoraid spokesperson, in a statement released today.
“Our first six years of humanitarian work have been dedicated to surgically repairing clitorises for female genital mutilation [FGM] victims, and on October 8 we’ll open the world’s first Clitoral Restoration Hospital,” Gary said. “This year, we’ll celebrate the sexual pleasure of all women, since all can benefit from more sexual appreciation.”

Too bad this is such a gendered article, but nevertheless, this is good stuff! I really dig the work that Clitoraid does.

The world is making slow strides toward progress. I really hope we’ll someday also see a day when people also talk about the importance of keeping all people in tact. Children should not be mutilated because of misguided attempts at subverting natural human sexuality, because of archaic and cruel religious beliefs/practices, or because of misguided attempts at forcing children into gender binaries.

I don’t give a shit why I’m trans or the biological and psychological theories about it.

Hell, even if am just doing this for no more reason than it feels good, it is still a perfectly valid way to live my life and I still deserve respect.

COSIGNED.

COSIGNED

yup.

Wish I could explain this to my parents. They didn’t pass Trans 101 though. /sigh/
